Close to Sava Lake and Ada Ciganlija, between the old road to Obrenovac and the Sava River is the MIKA ALAS Restaurant. Half a century ago it was a fishermen's cabin - meeting-place of river lovers who used to cook soup and other fisherman's specialties from their own catch, on their own hook and to their taste. The greatest masters of the trade relished nature and their unforgettable meetings have become a tradition. Surrounded with flowers and silence, there is a restaurant now -in new buildmg but in the old guise; decorated with fishing nets, traps, kettles ... and the freshness from the river makes a part of its ambience.
The picture of Mihailo Petrović, known as Mika Alas (i.e. fisherman), a great scientist but also a holder of a craftsman's license of the fishing trade - reminds us of the name of the restaurant. "If Mika Alas were here with you now - that's the message to the guests - he would make the best choice of fish". But as this river lover, catcher of big fish, master of making fish soup and a fellow of the Academies of Science m Belgrade, Prague. Bucharest, Zagreb, Warshaw, Krakow, is not able to do it, the guests have to choose themselves and - they cannot make a bad choice. Wide selection and high quality is guaranteed by the tradition. Not onlv best sorts of freshwater and sea fish, but grilled meat and meals to the order, as well as a varietv of domestic and foreign spirits -Macedonian, Italian, French, Portuguese wines ...
On Fridays and Saturdays there is suitable music. Together with JOKS Orchestra, their violin, guitar. bass and accordion, the guests - famous singers and entrainers are often among them -sing about Sava and Danube River s, a white lamb, Emina and ali the things sung about in good old times.
Ordinary people and celebrities: diplomats and politicians, stage stars, business people ... come here for the tradition, good mood, relaxing and private cosy atmosphere, for delicious fish, for silence and the smeli of the river. All of them accept the modes of life of Mika Alas, a great scientist who was a genuine fisherman only when he would come to the river.
